Position Title: Business Intelligence Developer

Department: Information Technology

Supervisor Title: IT Department Supervisor

Summary

While upholding the Star Valley Health mission, vision and values, this key position will play a critical role in enhancing data-driven decision-making. This position will analyze complex healthcare data, develop insightful reports and dashboards, and support strategic initiatives to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency. This role involves educating and providing instruction/training of reporting tools and lead in the selection and implementation of a product for combining data from disparate systems. This position will evaluate, review, and manage database resources and services across the organization while ensuring high levels of data quality. This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures of non-vendor managed databases to ensure the integrity and availability of databases. They will design, install and monitor and maintain non-vendor managed databases. Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical skills, along with the ability to manage complex demands and align with organizational strategic goals, are essential for success in this role. Assist in the development of and compliance with HIPAA standards to maintain the security, privacy, confidentiality, and integrity of health information. This position is “at will.”

Job Duties

  • Extract data from various databases using Crystal Reports, Microsoft SQL Developer, Microsoft Excel, Oracle Developer and other developer tools.
  • Design and develop interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, SQL).
  • Present requested reports or dashboards to end users and where appropriate provide a means to enable easy access to the data by structuring and developing easy to use suites of reports.
  • Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to understand their data needs and provide actionable insights for process improvement metrics.
  • Write technical documentation regarding the design, development, testing, and maintenance processes, and procedures related to data transfer and report development activities.
  • Conduct data quality assessments to ensure accuracy and reliability of information used in reporting and decision-making.
  • Support the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure and monitor organizational performance.
  • Assist in the implementation and optimization of data warehousing and BI solutions to enhance reporting capabilities.
  • Stay current with healthcare regulations and industry trends to ensure compliance and best practices in data analytics.
  • May create and test various software interfaces between internal and external applications but will not alter the vendor managed databases.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agency standards (ie HIPAA). Reviews, monitors, and updates applicable policies and procedures.
  • Oversees projects and manages timelines and tasks needed for successful completion.
  • Other duties as assigned or as needs arise.

Abilities & Skills:

Proven experience as a Business Intelligence Developer, preferably in healthcare setting.

Strong proficiency in BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and SQL for data extraction and analysis. Epic database experience strongly preferred.

Excellent creative analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights and tackle new or unfamiliar challenges.

Familiarity with healthcare data standards, regulations (e.g., HIPAA), and data governance.

Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to non-technical stakeholders.

Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and presentation skills.

Exceptional communication and influencing skills, building strong relationships at all levels.

Commitment to high-quality customer service and urgency in addressing needs.

Systemic thinking for effective change implementation.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with webinar applications and office equipment.

Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work autonomously while prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

Skilled in identifying key issues, evaluating alternatives, and making informed decisions.

Hours of work may vary including on-call coverage as assigned and needed

Constant sitting, typing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching throughout the day. Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds unassisted on a regular basis, lifting fifty (50) pounds or more on occasion.

Experience & Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems, with two to four years of experience working with databases, or a Bachelor’s degree combined with four or more years of relevant work experience.

Proficiency in Crystal Reports, Microsoft Access, Relational Databases, SQL, and BI tools.

Minimum 1-3 years as BI Developer or Analyst in healthcare setting.

Strong understanding of health center operations including Information Technology operations, HIPAA privacy laws and HITECH regulations.
