Description
Starbird Chicken (“Starbird) is a California-based quick service restaurant chain specializing in high-quality chicken dishes. Driven by our outstanding unit-level economics, we have partnered with exceptional private equity investors to grow our base of company-owned stores, and we have launched our franchise program to further accelerate growth.
The Controller will play a key role in managing the financial operations of the company. This role involves oversight of accounting, financial reporting, and compliance while supporting the company's rapid growth. The Controller will also work closely with the operations and franchise teams to ensure robust financial processes are in place.
Responsibilities:
Accounting and Financial Operations
- Manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reporting.
- Ensure compliance and adherence to other regulatory requirements.
- Lead the preparation and execution of audits and tax filings.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Franchising Planning and Analysis
- Support the CFO in budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.
- Conduct variance analysis to track financial performance against budgets.
- Provide detailed financial insights to help guide decision-making across departments.
Franchising Support
- Collaborate with the CFO on franchise financial models and systems.
- Review and support financial reporting processes for franchisees.
- Ensure franchise compliance with financial policies and procedures.
Operational Efficiency
- Streamline accounting processes and implement best practices.
- Monitor and optimize cash flow across corporate and franchise locations.
- Oversee financial tracking of construction expenses and lease obligations.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead and develop the accounting team to ensure operational excellence.
- Partner with department heads to drive cross-functional financial alignment.
- Act as a point of contact for external stakeholders, including auditors and tax advisors.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
- CPA certification highly desirable
- 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in the restaurant or hospitality industry.
- Knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and compliance standards.
- Experience with multi-unit operations and franchising is highly desirable.
- Proficient in financial systems and technology; experience with ERP implementation is a plus.
