StarCom is a privately owned and operated company that provides state-of-the-art solutions in fiber optic cabling.


Headquartered in northern New Jersey, StarCom services the NYC and NJ metro areas.

You will be asked to draw up cable plans and proposals for client customers and construction crews utilizing the latest version of CAD software.

As part of your OSP duties, you will be working with new and existing aerial, underground, and manhole cable runs from the carrier to customer locations.

As part of your ISP duties, you will be designing and reviewing existing designs of cable runs through building risers.


You will be mapping where and how the cables run and identifying where the splices are located.

You will be required to verify continuity for both aerial and underground systems for new builds.

You MAY be asked to conduct surveys and engineer construction plans for fiber optic cabling Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) applications.

CAD Skills Needed At Minimum


Proficient in basic drafting skills.

  • Must have proper understanding of the basic tools in any AUTOCAD software. EAMPLES: extend, trim, Hatch, splits, sketch tools.
  • Should understand and know how to use a viewport in paper space.
  • Should be able to embed jpg images into Model Space.
  • Need to be able to read and draw basic floor plans.
  • Need to be able to read and draw basic sections (Riser Detail).
  • Should know and understand Publish DWG To PDF.
  • Need to know how to Overkill & Purge drawing to make file sizes smaller for sharing files.
  • Should know how to convert PDF to DWG.
  • Please note that drawings are not prepared to scale.

Requirements


  • College Degree preferred. Relevant hands-on experience may be substituted for a college degree.
  • Three to five years of experience as a CAD designer in a fiber optic and/or telecommunications environment.
  • Experience completing drawings to obtain construction permits preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel to customer sites throughout northern NJ and NYC as required. Travel expenses will be covered.
  • Experience working with NYC ECS System preferred.
  • Experience working with CATV companies such as Comcast and Altice strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in surveying tools, CAD software, and GIS applications
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and permitting processes in the telecommunications sector.

Documentation:


  • Maintain accurate records of survey findings, project designs, and implementation details.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for clients and internal teams.
  • Aerial and underground make ready surveys; outside plant route selection and verification

WORK LOCATION


  • Cad work will be conducted from home. However, training will be at the Millburn, NJ location. All meetings will be in Millburn
  • Surveys will be conducted on jobsites where applicable
