Description
Under the direction of the school administration, this position will supervise and monitor student behavior throughout the school day during lunch, recess, study hall, between periods, during school events and in classrooms when acting as a substitute teacher. While acting as a substitute teacher, this individual will be responsible for taking attendance, explaining assignments, and maintaining a clean and orderly classroom.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility in a satisfactory manner while possessing a keen understanding of the needs of students as well as an appreciation for their common struggles and issues. Therefore, commitment to the school and its mission is essential.
This is a 9 month position and the hourly rate will start at $19.37 per hour. Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for conducting an organized and professional classroom.
- Collaborates with other faculty in delivery of appropriate instructional approaches, working to serve the various learning styles and needs of Stargate students.
- Implements curriculum and instruction in a manner consistent with Stargate's Mission Statement and best practice for gifted learners, including understanding, modeling and fostering independent thinking skills, creative problem solving and abstract reasoning.
- Differentiates based on students' needs and interests.
- Shows empathy and understanding of students.
- Shares ideas and observations with students and parents.
- Follows policies established by Stargate Administration, Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State mandated school guidelines, except where Stargate has received waivers.
- Supervise and monitor student behavior during the school day, lunch, recess, study hall, between periods, and during school events
- Provide assistance for students requiring additional educational guidance
- Take attendance and give to front desk for entry in school system
- Guide routine activities of eating, playing and peer interaction
- Direct student play activities and the use of play equipment
- Assist in establishing and maintaining an environment that stimulates the growth of desirable social, emotional and health habits
- Respond to and prevent violations of school rules and regulations on school grounds
- Communicate with administrators about the behavior of students
- Notify appropriate school administrators of situations which require immediate attention; issue written rewards or reprimands for positive or negative behavior
- Observe and report campus safety hazards
- Prevent students from engaging in unsafe activities
- Perform related duties as assigned
Education and Work Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in working with students
- One year experience providing general supervision to students or within a classroom environment
- Experience with working with school age children
- Must be a minimum of 18 years old
- Criminal background check required for hire
- Valid Colorado Teacher or Substitute license required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
- Demonstrated expertise in specialty field
Technical Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to promote and follow school policies, and building and department procedures
- Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
- Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator
Physical Abilities:
- Visual capability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines
- Able to conduct verbal conversation
- Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels)
- Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, walk
- Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps, etc.
- Able to stand for sustained periods of time
- Able to walk for extended periods of time
- Able to lift up to 80 pounds frequently
- Able to carry up to 80 pounds for extended distances
- Able to work in a wide range of weather conditions
