--VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT—
JOB TITLE: WASTEWATER MONITORING TECHNICIAN
SALARY RANGE: $23.38 per hour (90% of wage for probationary period)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision of Engineering Staff and supported by various divisions of the Department, responsible for performing skilled field and office work for the operation and maintenance of the wastewater flow monitoring systems.
QUALIFICATIONS & ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES: Completion of high school, or GED, and two-year vocational course or two-year college degree with major course work in engineering, electronics, computer science, or other related fields; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities required. Experience in flow monitoring with at least 6 months experience in water/wastewater. Certificate in confined space entry (or the ability to obtain within 6 months from date of hire). Provides installation and inspection of portable and fixed wastewater flow monitoring devices at multiple sites, diagnosis of equipment malfunction and repairs to flow monitoring equipment. Performs equipment troubleshooting, testing, repairing, installation, calibration, and maintenance of flow monitoring equipment, structures, channels, equipment, and data as required. Travels to site locations as needed to diagnose unique field conditions or determine appropriate location of flow monitoring equipment. Coordinate schedule to perform duties as appropriate. Collects sampled data from each monitoring station and prepares data for analysis. Troubleshoots the data collection process and assists in the analysis. Utilizes knowledge of the interrelationship of flow monitoring stations to the wastewater system to assist in solution formulations. Identify flow measurement variables and placement locations of flow monitoring devices as needed. Coordinates and assists in smoke and dye testing programs. Maintains flow monitoring records, smoke and dye testing records/reports. Assists/directs smoke testing, dye testing and other wet weather observations, assembles reports and participates in interpretation, conclusions and solution recommendations. Assists with projecting budget and capital improvement needs for the flow monitoring systems. Remains abreast of agreements for wastewater treatment between the Department and other municipalities. Performs other related duties as required.
