TEACHER, EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION: SEVERE DISABILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited educational institution.
2. Valid teacher certificate covering assigned area.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of curriculum trends for students with severe disabilities. Ability to use technology.

JOB GOAL:
To provide educational experiences to assist students in developing socially, emotionally, and
academically.
SUPERVISES:
Aides I Assistants / Paraprofessionals assigned by the Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Plan and implement a program that meets individual needs and abilities, including
academic behavior management, and social skills.
2. Establish and maintain standards of individual student behavior.
3. Develop and implement an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student.
4. Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials,
and facilities.
5. Establish a classroom environment conducive to teaming and appropriate to meeting
students needs.
6. Implement, in accordance with established procedures, non-violent restraint procedures
when students present an immediate threat to themselves or others.
7. Maintain accurate and complete records.
8. Assess student progress and report to parents in accordance with established procedures.
9. Participate in case conferences.
10. Instruct and supervise classroom aides / paraprofessionals, in the preparation and
execution of their duties.
11. Communicate with home and community agencies as appropriate.
12. Monitor students' health and medications.
13. Identify and use supplies, materials, and equipment which support learning activities.
14. Consult and train parents, professional staff, and supplementary agencies relative to
student needs.
15. Develop plans that integrate related services (occupational / physical therapy, speech /
language therapy, vision or hearing services) for specific students.
16. Provide for daily living needs (feeding, toileting, hygiene and grooming for students with
physical disabilities.
17. Employ a variety of appropriate instructional techniques.
18. Assist in implementing District and school policies. rules, and administrative procedures.
19. Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently
and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the
work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District
