JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

The Electrical Engineer II, under general supervision, are responsible for the design of new products and ensuring that they meet performance, quality, manufacturing, and cost requirements for Standard (Behind the Ear - BTE) and/or Custom (In the Ear - ITE) products. Must possess communication ability, technical expertise, creativity, and internal drive to lead the creation of designs that are recognized as best- in-class in the hearing aid industry. Must be able to work well in a team environment and have a passion for continuous improvement.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS

  • Represent Electrical Engineering department on project teams.
    • Work with project team to develop the technical project plan.
    • Work with project team to identify and mitigate risks.
    • Present design concepts and verification results in design reviews.
    • Act as technical interface between Electrical Engineering and other departments.

 

  • Design innovative new products.
    • Interpret U.S. and international standards.
    • Define electrical and acoustic requirements for components and products.
    • Integrate new technologies into product designs.
    • Collaborate on electrical design of schematics, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs).
    • Collaborate on the acoustic design of transducers, pathways, and parameters.
    • Characterize nominal acoustic performance.
    • Verify design performance meets requirements.
    • Support the transfer of new designs into production.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical performance issues.

 

  • Provide documentation to support business needs.
    • Submit patent disclosures.
    • Provide regulatory reports for domestic and international agencies.
    • Provide samples and test reports for homologation submissions for government registration and contracts.

 

  • Support existing products.
  • Provide technical support to resolve issues pertaining to existing products.
  • Support continuation engineering efforts.
  • Provide Direction to support engineers

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field; or
  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field

Experience

  • With BS, Minimum two years of experience in hearing aid design or in a product development environment. Considerations are given for experience in any of the following:
    • Engineering internship in industry
    • Education, training, or certification in music including instrumentation or vocal acoustics
    • Audiology coursework
    • Acoustic coursework
    • Audio engineering experience including production, recording, mixing, and mastering
    • Research in Music

 

  • With MS, a minimum of one year of experience in hearing aid design or in a product development environment. Considerations are given for experience in any of the following:
    • Engineering internship in industry
    • Education, training, or certification in music including instrumentation or vocal acoustics
    • Audiology coursework
    • Acoustic coursework
    • Audio engineering experience including production, recording, mixing, and mastering
    • Research in Music

Knowledge / Technical Requirements

  • Proficiency with schematic and layout CAD packages. (required for Engineer II)
  • Proficiency with circuit simulation tools. (required for Engineer II)
  • Proficiency with printed circuit board analysis software and tools. (required for Engineer II)
  • Intermediate working knowledge of DSP technology. (required for Engineer II)
  • Intermediate working knowledge of analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog circuits. (required for Engineer II)
  • Intermediate knowledge of acoustics and hearing aid design.
  • Intermediate knowledge of product development best practices (i.e. DFM, DOE, DFMEA, Lean PD, EMC, etc.). (required for Engineer II)

  • At least 55% of the new competencies of the next higher career “track” have been achieved.
  • Excellent design, troubleshooting, and documentation skills required.
  • Proven ability to perform complex engineering analysis and calculations required.
  • Strong attention to detail required.
  • Proficiency with audio analyzers and oscilloscopes required.
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment required.
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance to make decisions and report progress required.
  • Requires personal communication and conduct skills at a professional level.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills required.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to keep current with new technologies and industry trends required.

  • Various test equipment, acoustic test chambers, audio analyzers, O-scopes, DVOM’s, power supplies, personal computers, etc.

Salary and Other Compensation: The annual starting salary for this position is between $78,540.00 - $107,100.00 annually. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include: geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is eligible for a bonus based upon performance results. There is no guarantee of payout.
