JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

As a Human Factors Engineer intern, you'll apply human factors engineering and psychology principles to assess the design and usability of hearing aids and related devices. You'll support various projects, perform usability studies, generate risk assessments, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The role involves completing assignments, providing status updates, participating in feedback sessions, and supporting corporate guidelines and safety objectives. Candidates should be enrolled in a relevant graduate-level program and possess strong communication, organizational, and technical writing skills, with a preference for acoustical knowledge.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS

As a Human Factors intern, you will apply principles of human factors engineering and psychology to assess the design and usability of hearing aids, accessories and hearing protection devices at various stages in the product development lifecycle. The position is responsible for supporting the Human Factors Engineering and Systems Engineering department projects, activities and tasks. Tasks will include:

  • Perform and assist with usability study data collection and analysis
  • Generate and review risk assessment documentation with assistance from Human Factors personnel
  • Review and familiarize self with design process documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including designers, engineers, product managers and clinicians.
  • Perform assignments given by mentor, engineer or manager
  • Daily and weekly direct and indirect feedback from mentor and manager relevant to what has been done or accomplished on various tasks
  • Status updates and presentations
  • Participation in helping others on a day-to-day basis
  • Support Starkey Employee Corporate and/or Department Guidelines
  • Check and verify quality
  • Support corporate health and safety objectives
  • React to change productively and handle other essential duties as assigned

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Enrolled in a relevant technical program such as Human Factors, Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, or similar
  • Experience level: enrollment in a relevant graduate-level program (Masters, Ph.D., Au.D.)

Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual hourly rate for this position is $25 per hour.
