Behavior Specialist

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conducts student observations and writes Functional Behavior Plans (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
2. Attends IEP reviews to present FBAs and/or BIPs.
3. Provides input to SPED teachers for writing IEP behavior goals
4. Assists SPED teachers in planning smooth transitions for students as they prepare to go to the next grade.
5. Trains teachers to record behavior data to determine if progress is being made on BIPs.
6. Confers frequently with teachers about students who are experiencing serious behavior challenges.
7. Conducts staff and administrator training in the area of classroom management, behavior modification, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or other topics assigned by the Director of Student Support.
8. Completes paperwork in a timely manner or by deadlines given by building principal and/or Student Support Office.
9. Works with the director of Student Support to determine priorities in case load and keeps the Director of Student Support Services informed about caseload and provides progress updates weekly.
10. Becomes knowledgeable about Mississippi IDEA regulations.
11. Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
    

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Mississippi Certification in any area of education or a field related to behavior and education such as counseling, psychology or sociology with Mississippi licensure in that field.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Two (2) years experience in special education, elementary classroom or extensive work with students with behavior and/or emotional problems.
2. Master’s Degree in Special Education.
