What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Specialist position at Starkville High School?
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts student observations and writes Functional Behavior Plans (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Attends IEP reviews to present FBAs and/or BIPs.
- Provides input to SPED teachers for writing IEP behavior goals
- Assists SPED teachers in planning smooth transitions for students as they prepare to go to the next grade.
- Trains teachers to record behavior data to determine if progress is being made on BIPs.
- Confers frequently with teachers about students who are experiencing serious behavior challenges.
- Conducts staff and administrator training in the area of classroom management, behavior modification, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or other topics assigned by the Director of Student Support.
- Completes paperwork in a timely manner or by deadlines given by building principal and/or Student Support Office.
- Works with the director of Student Support to determine priorities in case load and keeps the Director of Student Support Services informed about caseload and provides progress updates weekly.
- Becomes knowledgeable about Mississippi IDEA regulations.
- Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location and notifies supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Mississippi Certification in any area of education or a field related to behavior and education such as counseling, psychology or sociology with Mississippi licensure in that field.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years experience in special education, elementary classroom or extensive work with students with behavior and/or emotional problems.
- Master’s Degree in Special Education.
