SUMMARY: The purpose of the Occupational Therapist is to provide educationally related occupational therapy services in fine motor, self-help, and visual motor skills to students suffering from a variety of cognitive, emotional and/or physical illnesses or disabilities according to the student’s Individualized Education Plan.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in screenings at preschools and support the Psychometrist with preschool assessments.
- Provide consultations with educators, offering recommendations or modifications for students facing difficulties with fine motor, self-help, and visual motor skills.
- Assess identified preschool and school-aged children for fine motor, visual motor, visual perception, and self-help skills.
- Assess classroom difficulties related to sensory integration and offers classroom suggestions, modifications, and activities to support transitions or other challenges.
- Collaborate with external partners and attend transition meetings as needed.
- Write assessment reports and utilize data to implement occupational therapy services.
- Participate in evaluations and re-evaluation meetings, providing input as needed.
- Attend all eligibility meetings where occupational therapy concerns are presented.
- Complete occupational therapy component on IEPs for related services.
- Track mastery of goals on all IEPs.
- Attend IEP meetings for students receiving occupational therapy services.
- Provide therapy for eligible in-school and out-of-school students.
- Assist Director of Student Support Services with child find efforts at preschools.
- Provide additional support and activities, as well as education to the parents, to help with their child’s fine motor and visual motor progress in the classroom.
- Report regularly and punctually to assigned work locations, notifying supervisor or designee of impending absence in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program.
- Licensed occupational therapist by Mississippi State Department of Health.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years of experience.
- Clinical experience working with children.
