Description
Starpoint is seeking a part-time Job Coach/Direct Support Professional for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to provide individualized support and training to help individuals with disabilities develop the skills necessary to gain and maintain employment, focusing on building independence and success within a workplace setting, often by working directly with employers and employees to facilitate inclusion and reasonable accommodations.
As a Job Coach, you can help people meet their goals and learn new skills. You also get to work with the kindest people and observe their intellectual and developmental growth.
This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week. The schedule depends on the needs of the individuals receiving services.
Job Functions:
- Assist clients in understanding the functions and additional tasks of their jobs.
- Provides support to employers as agreed upon by clients, including negotiating job accommodation and following up with the employer through contact with the employment specialist.
- Assist clients in communicating with coworkers and management.
- Assist clients in advocating for their needs while at work.
- Adhere to safe and healthy practices by complying with workplace safety and health policies and procedures and reporting unsafe work conditions at job sites.
- Maintain proper community supervision requirements.
- Clients are required to provide transportation to and from work.
- Complete daily notes and goals tracking through Starpoint’s provided online tools and monthly paperwork.
- Other Direct Support Professional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications & Requirements
• At least 18 years of age or older
• High energy, positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for caring for others.
• Pass a Criminal and Colorado Adult Protective Services (CAPS) background check.
• Possess a valid Drivers License and have a driving record in good standing.
• Reliable vehicle with proof of auto insurance.
• Dependable and Punctual
• Positive attitude, compassion, and critical thinking.
• Good written and verbal communication and comprehension skills
• Excellent communication skills with peers and staff members.
Physical Requirements
• Able to provide all elements of hands-on care per clients' individual needs.
• Transferring clients for supported employment is assessed on a case-by-case basis and is not required for all positions.
Experience
• At least one year of working with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
