Senior Director - Reinsurance Data & Technology

Starr Companies is seeking an experienced, high-energy forward-thinking Reinsurance Technology Director to lead the technical implementation of a new global reinsurance processing software. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with an enterprise reinsurance software implementation and data migration, preferably with Reinsurance Master from Sapiens or FSRI from SAP. The successful candidate will be hands on, excel in execution, and have deep reinsurance data expertise.

Essential Functions:

Project Planning and Management

• Develop comprehensive IT project plans, including scope, timelines, resource allocation, and budget.
• Define IT project milestones, deliverables, and success criteria.
• Manage project analysts and developers
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure project alignment with business objectives.
  
  

Implementation and Integration

• Lead the end-to-end IT implementation of the reinsurance processing software.
• Ensure seamless integration with existing systems and processes.
• Manage data migration, system configuration, and customization as required.
• Oversee data quality and reconciliation
  
  

Stakeholder Communication & Risk Management

• Act as the primary point of contact for all IT project-related communications.
• Facilitate regular project meetings with IT analysts, developers, the vendor, and business users as required. Provide IT status updates to senior management and stakeholders.
• Manage stakeholder expectations and address any concerns or issues promptly.
• Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Monitor IT project progress and adjust plans as necessary to address any deviations from the project plan.
  
  

Quality Assurance:

• Develop Test Strategy and Plans
• Implement best practices for quality assurance and testing.
• Conduct regular reviews and audits to ensure the software meets business requirements and standards.
  
  

Operational Support

• Coordinate with Reinsurance Operations to ensure operational readiness.
• Provide ongoing oversight and troubleshooting during the post-implementation phase.
• Ensure proper documentation of IT processes, procedures, and error handling.
  
  

Position Requirements:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent. A Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is a plus.
• Data Analyst certificate a plus
  
  

Experience:

• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in project management, with experience in handling large scale transformation involving multiple systems across various geographical location.
• Minimum of 5-7 years managing distributed teams
• Solid understanding of reinsurance transactions, including Treaty, Facultative, and Excess of Loss
• Led at least 2 data migrations
• Prior experience with reinsurance software implementation, preferably Reinsurance Master from Sapiens or FSRI from SAP.
• Good understanding of cloud computing and delivery models
• Experience in supporting reinsurance/financial close process
• Well versed with policy and claim lifecycle and impact of these on the reinsurance process
  
  

Skills:

• Strong project management skills, including planning, execution, and risk management.
• Hands on technical knowledge of staging environments, ETL, Data Migration, and Integrations and reinsurance data
• Very Strong Excel skills
• Demonstrated expertise with SQL
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency in project management tools and software.
• Experience in ETL and Data Warehouse methods and technologies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, including data analysis
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the property and casualty insurance industry.
• Strong understanding of reinsurance processes, systems, and industry best practices.
• Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance in the insurance sector.
• Quick learner with an excellent memory
  
  

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Starr Insurance Companies is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets: experience and training: licensure and certifications: and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $175,000-$200,000.
