JOB SUMMARY: The Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Psychiatric Technician (Nurse) assists with medication support services provided by the psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. Medication support services may include, but are not limited to; med support appointments, taking vitals, medication education, medication management support and/or administration, including injections. Follow up communication, tracking and documentation for labs, prescriptions and appointments. provides direct client care including medications and basic medical intervention and education, following standard nursing practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Graduation from an accredited school of licensed vocational nursing or psychiatric technology required.
Associates degree, preferred.
Experience
One (1) year service experience working as a LVN or LPT in a behavioral health field
One (1) year medication administration experience required.
License or Certification
Valid California LVN or LPT license.
Current CPR certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to visually and audibly assess participants’ behavior and needs.
2. Ability to provide first aide.
3. Ability to stand and walk for long periods, up to 3 hours at a time.
4. Ability to drive within the community in personal vehicle.
POTENTIAL JOB HAZARDS
1. Potential for eye and wrist strain from computer screen and minor lacerations from paper cuts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Provides direct nursing care.
2. Visually and audibly observes, documents in writing and reports orally or in writing the physical or mental condition to the Nurse Practitioner/Physician’s Assistant or Psychiatrist.
3. Orders, prepares, administers and documents the administration of medication for clients per physician’s orders. Confirms delivery of all ordered medication from pharmacy.
4. Provides basic medical care, including first aide and medical intervention within scope of licensure as necessary for each individual client.
5. Documents all services provided in a clear and concise manner within the Electronic Health Record within the timelines and framework established by Starlight Community Services.
6. Prepares, presents and coordinates a verbal or written change of shift report.
7. Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures regarding medical care.
