Preschool Teacher’s Assistant Job Description
Start Here Preschool is a non-profit parent cooperative preschool with a learn-through-play philosophy. At our school, children learn to share, to respect the rights of others, to give and take, to better express themselves, and to gain confidence in their abilities. Our school also provides a cooperative learning experience for parents through participation and observation of the program.
We are looking for a teaching assistant for the 2025-2026 school year. Above all, we are seeking a candidate who is enthusiastic and passionate about children. We are also looking for someone who excels at being self-driven, reliable, and accountable.
Qualifications
- AA in Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience
- Experience working in a developmentally appropriate setting
- Clean criminal background check
- CPR certified
Job Overview
Classes run Monday -Thursday 9:00-4:00 pm and Friday 9:00-12:00pm. The assistant will be scheduled to work during these hours based on enrollment levels.
Instructional Responsibilities
- Assist in teaching assigned classes of 10-16 children, ages 3-5, with the help of parent volunteers.
- Model developmentally appropriate activities and positive behavior management techniques through daily contact with children and staff in the classroom.
- Prepare and implement daily activities, indoor and outdoor.
- Maintain good communication with parents on a daily basis.
- Ensure the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Work in a team environment showing flexibility and a willingness to share ideas and accept the ideas of others.
- Stay current on educational developments and safety certifications.
- Attend monthly board meetings and other school functions.
Working Conditions
The assistant may be lifting and carrying children and equipment as well as spending time on the floor or child-sized furniture. The preschool setting is a busy and sometimes noisy environment where a number of activities may be happening at once. The teacher may experience smells associated with toileting and children who are ill. The teacher must be prepared to handle accidents and emergencies at any time.
Compensation
Pay is an hourly wage of $25.
