Position Summary
The peer supervisor reports to the Community Engagement Director and plays a critical role in the provision and reinforcement of collaborative peer support, specifically while in the community. The Peer Supervisor will work closely with a team of peers and clinicians to perform community-based outreach and trainings, with the goal of connecting people to START or other health-related services, as well as building general awareness about behavioral health. The peer supervisor will develop, engage in, and supervise peer-based activities, including community-based harm reduction training and street outreach, both in the community and at StartCare locations. The peer supervisor will foster a collaborative environment with a health equity focus that is person-centered, trauma-informed and rooted in evidence-based harm reduction principles to support people with substance use and/or mental health disorders. This is a grant funded position.

Applied Street Outreach

Essential Functions
Applied Street Outreach
- Conduct community-based field work focused on people who use drugs, people with serious mental illness, and/or experiencing homelessness, with the goal of connecting people to StartCare or other health-related services.
- Facilitate peer counseling groups for current StartCare participants.
- Forge and develop partnerships with existing behavioral health, social and other health related providers, with a focus on peer workforce development and workflows.
- Provide non-clinical crisis support, especially after periods of hospitalization or incarceration.
- Work Collaboratively with clinical and nonclinical staff.
- Co-lead and/or coordinate delivery or community-based harm reduction training, including overdose prevention response (naloxone).
- Contribute to and/or review training content to ensure accessibility for co-leads and audiences alike.
- Develop and provide training for agency peers.
- Provide regular individual supervision to peer outreach navigator(s), including in-vivo as needed.
- Provide regular group supervision to peer outreach navigator(s) and team members in other agency peer roles.
- Provide supervision of peer interns enrolled in StartCare internship programs.
- Provide support and ensure timely completion of necessary documentation.
- Reinforce, monitor, and ensure application of evidence-based strategies (e.g., motivational interviewing) in peer-related activities.
- Contribute to program iteration/expansion by developing and/or consulting on peer workflows.
- Complete and supervise administrative tasks related to peer workforce listed activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) required, with three (3) years' experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Dual Certification (CRPA & CPS) required within 1 year
- Ability to work in a variety of settings including the general community and OASAS regulated outpatient programs under the general supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
