Job Description
We are seeking a Battery Retrofit Technician responsible for removing existing batteries from B160 cabinets, retrofitting the cabinets to accommodate new Lithium-ION batteries, and configuring them with Ericsson NOC.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Pick up batteries from a designated centralized location.
- Ensure all necessary equipment, tools, and personnel are available and properly trained.
- Inspect, calibrate, and inventory all tools and materials before installation.
- Verify all components of the battery kit are accounted for.
- Power down the B160 cabinet and remove Lead Acid batteries.
- Prepare the B160 cabinet for the retrofit kit installation, installing new components including the B160 Li-Ion Adaptation Kit and Battery 6618.
- Complete installation, conduct battery testing, and ensure proper disposal of old components per Ericsson and local regulations.
- Verify communication between Controller 6610 and Battery 6618, confirming proper charging functionality and conducting a power failure simulation test.
- Adhere to strict safety procedures, including PPE usage, site access permissions, and risk mitigation.
- Implement emergency protocols and escalate issues to NTAC as needed.
- Promptly report any unexpected issues to the Ericsson Point of Contact (POC).
- Complete the "Ask Yourself" checklist before commencing work.
- Ensure all work complies with Ericsson’s quality and safety standards.
- Obtain proper documentation and approvals before execution.
- Return old batteries to the designated centralized location.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in battery system installation and maintenance.
- Prior experience with Ericsson field activities is a MUST.
- Proficiency in using tools such as screwdrivers, drills, multi-voltage meters, and cable cutters.
- Strong knowledge of safety procedures and risk assessment.
- Ability to follow technical manuals and Method of Procedure (MOPs) accurately.
- Effective communication skills for coordination with stakeholders.
Safety Expectations:
- Ensure a safe work environment for yourself and your team at all times.
- Participate in daily JHA/toolbox talk reports.
- Wear PPE at all times.
- Be familiar with and know the location of the on-site safety manual.
- Ensure the availability of a safety rescue kit, first aid kit, and a functional fire extinguisher.
- In case of an emergency, secure the area, call 911, and report incidents to the direct supervisor.
- Maintain a clean worksite free of trash, debris, and trip hazards.
- Maintain a drug- and alcohol-free work environment.
- Ability to lift over 50 pounds.
Experience, Education & Required Certifications:
- Electrical Safety Training (NFPA 70E or QEW).
- OSHA 10/30 Certification.
- Battery Awareness Training.
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- RF Awareness Training.
