What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Counselor Co Responder position at Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare?
SUMMARY:
The Co-Responder therapist is responsible for assisting law enforcement with individuals who are being charged with petty crimes, are in a mental health crisis, may be in need of local resources and services, who may be in an altered state of reality or in a substance use crisis, and individuals who are having a behavioral outburst.
Pay: $45,000-$57,000 annually

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful completion of Background, MVR and DFWP Screenings.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
A master's
degree in the field of counseling, social work, psychology or a related human
services field. Experience in working with law enforcement, and
individuals during a crisis. FL licensure strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist law enforcement whenever they encounter an individual suspected of having a mental illness or substance use disorder.
- Follow direction from law enforcement partner regarding on-scene safety immediately and without hesitation.
- Work closely with law enforcement and crisis intervention personnel.
- Interview/assess individuals for risk of harm to themselves or others.
- Provide referrals/linkage of essential services for individuals served.
- Respond to calls within the community for individuals who are actively suicidal/homicidal, active psychotic episode, have attempted suicide, or having behavioral outbursts.
- Assess/monitor for symptoms of trauma and indications of abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment. Use appropriate reporting mechanisms.
- Identify ways to reduce hospitalizations or emergency room use and direct into appropriate areas of care.
- Collaborate with other community agencies to address immediate needs of the individual.
- Conduct follow-up visits with high-risk individuals.
- Refer to and coordinate necessary psychiatric evaluation and medication management to ensure access to stabilization services.
- Must be able to work in fast-paced, high stress environments with minimal supervision.
