We provide a wide variety of programs for all ages with special behavioral health and substance abuse programs for children, teens, women, families and older adults.

Summary

The Peer Recovery Specialist plays an important role in advancing the mission of Starting Point. Peer Recovery Specialists are people who understand and speak the language of the heart, because they have lived experienced with recovery from mental health and substance use conditions. Peer Recovery Specialists support and inspire others through shared understanding, respect, and mutual empowerment.

Peer Specialist Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspire hope and individuals served to move forward in each phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
  • Help individuals explore goals, personal interests, strengths and weaknesses in recovery.
  • Support individuals in identifying recovery goals and creating a recovery action plan.
  • Teach and role model the value of living in recovery.
  • Empower those served by encouraging self-advocacy and normalizing the conversation about mental health and substance use conditions.
  • Utilize evidence-based recovery tools and lived experience to promote recovery.
  • Encourage individuals to discover community and natural supports to aid in recovery including self-help and wellness tools.
  • Coach individuals to identify coping skills and techniques to manage symptoms and navigate challenges on recovery path.
  • As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, collaborate to develop innovative approaches for engaging at-risk individuals in recovery.
  • Deliver unmatched customer service and person-centered care--living organizational values of Community, Healing, Recovery, Hope and Support.
  • Document all service activity in a timely manner in adherence to program funding source

Qualifications:

  • High school education and a minimum of two years in recovery from a mental health or substance use condition. Eligible for State of Florida Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (CRSS) or Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS)
  • Local / Level II Background, MVR and Federal Drug Free Workplace Screenings
