Description
The Minnesota Star Tribune is an innovative modern media organization building on an extraordinary 157-year legacy. With seven Pulitzer Prizes and numerous other accolades, we stand as a beacon of journalistic excellence in Minnesota. We are the heart and voice of the North.
Our mission is to build a better Minnesota by connecting us with the people, ideas, and stories that strengthen our communities. We’re seeking dynamic leaders who are passionate about journalism and democracy to help shape this future. If you are excited about reinventing one of our state’s most trusted institutions and leading us into a new era of growth and excellence, we want to hear from you.
About the Scrum Master :
At the Minnesota Star Tribune, a Scrum Master is not just the keeper of the team’s process and their metrics – they are a coach and leader who helps the team work on themselves as well as their deliverables. Our Scrum Masters represent the team to external stakeholders (which can mean executives, newsroom personnel, or anyone else) and help form the communications layer between our delivery teams and the folks who will end up actually using the software they create.
One of the key skills a Scrum Master needs to have is being able to adapt, and help teams adapt, instead of dictate. While consistent and reliable delivery is necessary, giving teams the tools to ensure their own consistency – and knowing when experimentation can fit in so that the team has permission to innovate – is the most important thing a Scrum Master can focus on. Our Scrum Masters help teams work on their culture, and they are expected to create an attitude of psychological safety that pushes for fearless change, not stagnant worry over upsetting the apple cart.
We’re Looking For :
- A year or more of experience as a Scrum Master, either full-time or as part of team-member duties on a development team - this is not an entry-level role
- Familiarity with SDLC from experience in professional software development teams
- A fluency in Scrum and an ability to articulate its principles in a variety of ways to meet people where they are in their agile journey (even if they’re very skeptical)
- A passion for reaching across domains and boundaries to clear communications paths and make collaboration actually happen
- Experience with project and / or product management software tools like Jira, Trello, Azure DevOps, LeanKit, or the equivalent – specifically, a comfort with reporting metrics and constructing workflows
- An ability to create and maintain multiple backlogs
- Comfort with gathering and synthesizing requirements from multiple stakeholders, both technical and non-technical
- A clear spoken and written communication style, with a willingness to try different ways of communicating topics until appropriate understanding is reached
- A servant leader willing to build strong relationships with members of the product organization to help execute product strategies
