What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Electrical Estimator (Transmission & Distribution) position at Starts Align LLC?
An energy contractor is adding a Senior Electrical Estimator to the team in Melville, NY. This company handles horizontal construction of underground and overhead utilities including turnkey construction maintenance for all phases of electrical power generation, transmission, distribution, and substations. This person will join a team of 3, responsible for compiling about 50 bids per month for electrical construction jobs ranging from $10MM up to $100MM in size. This team focuses on overhead and underground transmission & distribution, renewable energy (off shore wind), and substation projects. This position reports into the Chief Estimator.
Some key functions include:
- Collaborate with ownership to identify potential projects for the bid log.
- Develop cost estimates aligned with company goals and industry standards.
- Analyze bid documents to define the scope of work and meet Owners' requirements.
- Participate in pre-qualification events and site visits.
- Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of department estimates before submission.
- Support project management teams throughout the project lifecycle, including pre-construction and change orders.
Must Have:
- 5 years of estimating experience in the electrical or utility construction industry
- Experience estimating horizontal energy construction projects such as underground utilities, overhead utilities, transmission & distribution energy and substation projects
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software systems (Accubid, B2W, etc.)
- Able to lead a team of 3 Estimators, while working independently to complete estimates or proposals efficiently while meeting firm deadlines
- Effective communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills, and a strong work ethic
- Ability to be in the Melville, NY office
- Minimal travel required (1-2x per year to job sites, if necessary)
- Bachelor’s Degree Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or related field
