Job Summary:

The Senior Analyst will be responsible for providing analytical and other support to the Portfolio Management team in connection with the oversight of Starwood Property Trust’s $17Bn pool of structured First Mortgage, Mezzanine and Preferred Equity positions.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist with underwriting of loans on a quarterly basis for presentation to Starwood executive management team.
  • Analyze financial statements and rent rolls for portfolio assets. This includes normalizing, reviewing and comparing operating expenses, rollover schedules, and where applicable, preparing trailing 12-month financials and proformas.
  • Assist with the review of various property transactional matters requiring Starwood’s approval. This includes preparing recommendations for senior management approval
  • Identify loan non-compliance issues, property issues, and re-underwrite loans when necessary.
  • Monitor portfolio management databases to ensure that the information contained within is accurate and complete.
  • Coordinate with portfolio managers in procuring data to ensure that business needs of counterpart departments (Capital Markets, Underwriting, Accounting, Treasury, Loan Originations, etc.) are being met.
  • Work with Portfolio Managers and legal counsel to review loan documentation. This includes analyzing loan provisions to determine interest calculations such as yield/spread maintenance premiums or other minimum interest calculations.
  • Assist with collecting data and analyzing overall portfolio performance. This includes stratifying exposure to certain geographies and property types, analyzing portfolio weighted average leverage ratio and reporting on upcoming and recent loan repayment activity.
  • Assist with collecting and distributing required reporting to Starwood’s various financing providers.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects and requests.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work on exception basis.
  • Must be detail oriented with good communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to comprehend real estate loan documents.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Skilled in the analysis and explanation of variances and the ability to delve into the details to further understand financial transactions.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Law or related analytical field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 year’s related work experience in the real estate or finance fields.
