Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Scheduler to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in medical administrative support and be familiar with scheduling appointments in a clinic setting.
StatCare is one of the largest privately held Hospitalist and Pulmonary Services groups in the nation serving Knoxville area hospitals and outpatient clinics. We are seeking a well-qualified Patient Scheduler to join our team in Knoxville, Tennessee.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The role of a Patient Scheduler involves high customer contact. It is important that applicants are courteous and willing to provide support to patients and colleagues.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
1. Answers incoming phone calls in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner.
2. Directs all calls to appropriate areas and / or extensions.
3. Records messages with accuracy and conciseness while prompting patients and other callers for pertinent information.
4. Verifies and updates necessary information in the medical records / database.
5. Maintains computerized scheduling and follows office scheduling policies.
6. Handles outgoing phone calls as appropriate (e.g., appointment confirmations, referral calls, pre-certs, etc.)
7. Communicates general clinic information, when appropriate.
8. Responds to emergency calls according to established procedure and sound judgment.
9. Uses paging system according to procedure.
10. Responsible for communicating telephone system inefficiencies or repair needs.
11. Responsible for preparing next day paperwork.
12. Assists with charge entry, and /or coding issues.
13. Performs duties in a professional manner while exhibiting a courteous and cooperative demeanor to patients, co-workers, management, and the public.3
14. Assists with other general office functions, such as mail processing, as requested.
15. Maintains strictest confidentiality both internally (with other StatCare employees) and externally (with the public).
16. Adheres to the corporate compliance plan and policies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Skill in greeting patients and answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
- Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
- Knowledge of medical office procedures
- Knowledge of spelling, grammar and punctuation needed to record messages.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.
- Ability to apply policies and principles to solve everyday problems and deal with a variety of situations.
- Ability to work effectively with physicians, patients, staff and the public.
- Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required.
EXPERIENCE: Prefer one year experience in patient registration or related role
