Location: Mineola
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Pay Range: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Job Summary
As a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA), you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals through their recovery journey, drawing from your own lived experiences and professional training. You will provide non-clinical support to individuals facing substance use challenges, helping them navigate their recovery plans, develop coping strategies, and connect with essential community resources.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide non-clinical crisis support, particularly after hospitalization or incarceration.

  • Educate individuals about various recovery methods and support them in choosing the most effective path.
  • Accompany clients to medical and other essential appointments, ensuring they receive the care they need.
  • Raise awareness about and link participants to social services, benefits, and recovery supports.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to offer holistic, client-centered care.
  • Conduct assessments and facilitate groups focused on substance abuse, dependency, and dual disorder services.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices like motivational interviewing to support individuals at different stages of change.
  • Assist in the development of relapse prevention and crisis diversion plans.
  • Provide ongoing recovery education and counseling to individuals and their families.
  • Engage in transitional support, especially for individuals moving from institutions like hospitals or rehab to their homes.
  • Maintain compliance with all organizational policies and participate in the development of procedures and EBP group curriculums.
  • Conduct office duties and wellness activities as required.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • New York Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) required.
  • International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC-RC) exam.
  • At least 1 year of work experience after receiving CRPA certification.
  • Complete 50 hours of required training (advocacy, mentoring and education, recovery wellness support, ethical responsibility, and Medication Supported Recovery (MSR)).
  • Complete at least 500 hours of related volunteer or work experience.
  • Bilingual Spanish Preferred

Schedule Requirements:

  • Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm

  • Lived Experience: Personal experience with substance use and recovery, with the ability to draw from this experience to support others.

  • Crisis Intervention: Strong ability to provide non-clinical crisis support, particularly during periods of high stress or transition.
  • Motivational Interviewing: Proficiency in motivational interviewing techniques to engage individuals and encourage positive behavior change.
  • Knowledge of Recovery Models: In-depth understanding of various recovery models, including abstinence-based and harm reduction approaches.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Advocacy Skills: Strong advocacy abilities to assist clients in navigating healthcare, social services, and legal systems.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, demonstrating respect and sensitivity to cultural differences.
  • Team Collaboration: Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team, with a collaborative approach to client care.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple clients, appointments, and documentation requirements.
  • Resilience and Patience: Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations, offering consistent support to clients throughout their recovery journey.
  • Ethical Practice: Adherence to ethical guidelines and the ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with staff and clients.
