Job Summary
The Drug Screen Collection Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive training to new and existing staff in drug and alcohol collection procedures. This role ensures that all collections are conducted in compliance with federal, state, and organizational guidelines. The trainer will develop, implement, and maintain training programs to ensure consistent adherence to best practices, proper handling of specimens, and accurate documentation of the chain of custody.
The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of both DOT (Department of Transportation) and non-DOT drug collection processes and possess a proactive approach to quality assurance and procedural compliance.
Roles and Responsibilities
Training and Development:
Conduct in-person and virtual training sessions on proper drug screen collection techniques (urine, saliva, hair follicle, etc.) for all new and existing employees.
- Ensure trainees understand and strictly adhere to chain-of-custody procedures.
- Evaluate and certify employees on drug screen collection skills to confirm compliance and competence.
- Develop and continuously refine training materials, including manuals, presentations, and hands-on demonstrations, to ensure alignment with regulatory changes and industry standards.
Provide ongoing mentorship and skill reinforcement for staff to maintain procedural excellence.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
Ensure training programs cover applicable DOT and non-DOT guidelines, as well as company policies.
- Review and audit collection procedures conducted by employees to identify and resolve any errors or inconsistencies.
- Maintain accurate training records and documentation, including certifications and evaluations.
Serve as a subject matter expert for any drug collection-related questions, issues, or escalations.
Program Management:
Stay updated on regulatory changes (e.g., DOT-Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) updates, SAMHSA guidelines) and incorporate them into the training curriculum.
- Monitor adherence of staff to compliance standards, identifying areas of improvement when necessary.
- Coordinate with leadership to ensure all staff meet training deadlines and certification requirements.
Participate in internal or external audits and assist in achieving corrective action goals for performance improvement.
Collaboration:
Work closely with supervisors, managers, and HR teams to identify training needs and establish a schedule for training programs.
Collaborate with other trainers, quality assurance specialists, and program managers to ensure consistency across the organization.
General Responsibilities:

- Ensure a high level of customer service when interacting with staff, clients, and external parties.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
Certification as a Drug Screen Collector Trainer (e.g., DOT Certified Collector Trainer from an accredited program) is preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a certified and active drug screen collector and trainer.
- Candidates who meet this experience requirement but do not yet hold DSC certification may be sponsored by an existing trainer to obtain certification.
- Comprehensive knowledge of DOT and non-DOT drug and alcohol screening regulations, including chain-of-custody procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver engaging and effective training sessions.
Proficiency in using relevant technology, including training software, documentation platforms, and databases.
Schedule Requirements:
- Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong attention to detail, with a solid understanding of federal and state regulations surrounding specimen collection procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently present and mentor trainees of varying skill levels.
- Ability to adapt to changes in collection protocols and communicate them effectively to the team.
- Basic proficiency with electronic systems, including specimen tracking and documentation tools.
- Additional experience in multiple testing methods (saliva, hair follicle, breath alcohol testing, etc.).
- Previous experience designing or facilitating training programs.
Familiarity with workplace drug testing policies and safety protocols.
