The Prince George’s County Office of the State’s Attorney has an opening for an Experienced Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) for the Homicide Unit. This is an exempt position, meaning the Assistant State’s Attorney is a political appointment and serves at the pleasure of the State’s Attorney.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
The State’s Attorney’s Office is looking to fill a vacancy for an Experienced Assistant State’s Attorney (ASA) for the Homicide Unit. The Homicide Unit is based on a vertical prosecution model, where assistant state’s attorneys are assigned investigations at the same time law enforcement is notified of a homicide and are responsible for all phases of a prosecution. The candidate selected must be familiar with and able to effectively apply criminal statues, rules, and case law to advise law enforcement, make charging decisions, and navigate all stages of litigation in serious and complex cases. The ASA must be able to confidently and gracefully handle the demands of a fast paced and high-volume unit.
MINIMUM SALARY: $135,508.00 – $166,347.00* (*The salary amount will be effective upon the processing of the approved salary adjustment by OHRM.)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR CANDIDATES:
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited law school and be eligible to practice law in the State of Maryland. Additionally, candidates must have a minimum three (3) years of criminal litigation experience in the office or elsewhere.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: All internal candidates have met these conditions.
