POSITION OVERVIEW
The State Bar of New Mexico (SBNM) is a professional organization of attorneys licensed to practice law in New Mexico. The mission of the State Bar is to be a united and inclusive organization serving the legal profession and the public.
The SBNM seeks a qualified applicant to join our team as a full-time (40 hours/week) Director of Finance (DOF). The successful incumbent will be responsible for all fiscal management, budgeting, financial reporting, and financial strategic goals of the organization. Functions include coordinating the development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets and their respective financial reporting; ensuring cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal control activities of the organization; and implementing best practices for financial control and compliance with regulations. The salary range is $100,000 - $115,000/year, depending on experience and qualifications. Generous benefits package included. This position qualifies for partial telecommuting. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Develop accounting policies to comply with generally accepted accounting principles, tax requirements, and management reporting requirements.
· Establish and enforce formal internal control policies and procedures.
· Generate timely and accurate financial and management reports monthly and quarterly including executive summary reports as required.
· Responsible for cash management and cash budgeting related to seasonal cash flow issues.
· Maintain all internal financial records, including chart of accounts, general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, journal entries, and department and project codification.
· Oversee classification of all revenues and expenditures and compliance with revenue recognition and disbursement policies of the organization.
· Participate in Finance Committee, Board of Bar Commissioner, and State Bar Foundation Board meetings and present financial data as necessary.
· Educate members of the Executive Team, Finance Committee, Board of Bar Commissioners, and State Bar Foundation Board on reading and interpreting financial reports.
· Participate in annual budget preparation for State Bar and Bar Foundation, prepare State Bar annual budget disclosure to membership, and oversee budgeted to actual expenditure comparisons.
· Review semi-monthly payroll and submit all related federal and state payroll tax forms and payments.
· Oversee financial aspects of annual license renewal and MCLE compliance process for State Bar members.
· Develop and manage accounting staff.
· Coordinate with financial institutions to meet the organization’s banking and financing needs, while minimizing risk and maximizing returns.
· Coordinate with independent auditors to complete annual financial audit and preparation of 990 tax returns, including producing audit schedules, providing support documents for substantive testing, responding to analytical inquiries, updating financial statement disclosures, and preparing the unrelated business income tax accrual and schedules of functional expenses.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
· Advanced Degree or Certification in relevant field (Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance).
· Certified Public Accountant, certified in the state of New Mexico.
· Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior level professional, relevant position.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people including State Bar members, volunteer leadership, senior management, staff, outside attorneys and business vendors.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
· Highly proficient with accounting software.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to organize workload and effectively manage several areas of responsibility.
· Excellent computer skills including all Microsoft Office programs.
· Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
· Employees must be United States Citizens or eligible to work in the United States.
