What are the responsibilities and job description for the K/1 Assistant Teacher position at State College Friends School?
SCFS is seeking a part-time Assistant Teacher to support and collaborate with a K/1st Grade Lead Teacher. Assistant Teachers work directly with students in all subject areas and partner with the Lead Teacher to deliver a mission-aligned social-emotional and academic program in a mixed-age classroom. Faculty members at SCFS thoughtfully engage people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences and foster an environment of trust, collaboration, and professionalism at school. A strong alignment with Quaker testimonies and progressive education -- in philosophy and teaching practice -- is expected.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In the classroom, the Assistant Teacher:
- under the supervision of the Lead Teacher, leads lessons and facilitates formative assessments for small groups of students;
- assists students on-on-one;
- contributes to classroom management and behavior management;
- supervises students independently;
- prepares materials;
- supports the Lead Teacher across the academic and social-emotional program as needed.
In addition to classroom duties, the Assistant Teacher:
- attends in-service;
- participates in Back-to-School Night, family-teacher conferences, and other school events;
- facilitates class field trips;
- completes other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Head of School, consistent with the position of an Assistant Teacher and member of the faculty.
REQUIREMENTS
- 2- or 4-year college degree
- Experience working with children in a school setting
- An understanding of Quaker values and decision-making aligned with the SCFS mission statement
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position includes, but is not limited to: moving; bending; walking, including at a fast pace, both indoors and outdoors; lifting up to 50 pounds; kneeling; squatting; sitting on the floor; standing for long periods of time; climbing stairs.
Part Time, Hourly: This is a 9-month position that includes up to 34 hours per week on site and occasional evening or weekend events. $15/hour
