The State College YMCA is currently accepting applications for a full-time Aquatics Supervisor to be responsible for upholding safety rules, Y policies, accident prevention, and emergency response at YMCA pools. This includes instructing swim lessons and supervising other lifeguard staff. The hours for this position will be Tuesday - Saturday from 2 PM - 9 PM.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lifeguard Supervisor:
- Supervise lifeguard staff during shift times, including opening and closing procedures.
- Perform cleaning duties as assigned.
- Test the pool daily to ensure a safe swimming environment; add chemicals to maintain proper chemistry. Advise the Aquatics Director of any issues.
- Maintain orderly logbooks in accordance with PA Health Codes. Abide by the PA State Bather’s Code when cleaning up during water contamination incidents.
- Supervise swimmers and patrons within the aquatic facility.
- Take actions necessary to prevent injury to patrons and self.
- Respond and perform lifesaving actions and emergency first aid when needed.
- Support, follow, and enforce all facility rules; know the reasons behind every rule and convey those reasons in a positive manner to patrons who ask questions.
- Complete incident reports as needed. Report any problems with patrons or other staff to the Aquatics Director.
- Swim Instructor:
- Create a warm and positive environment while encouraging swimmers to meet course objectives.
- Create lesson plans including activities that fall within swim lesson program guidelines.
- Support, follow, and enforce all facility rules and regulations with an extra emphasis on safety.
- Take attendance using the class roster.
- Communicate with parents about their child’s progress.
Qualifications
- At a minimum, a high school level education is required.
- Current lifeguard certification or ability to obtain a certification.
- Previous experience as a lifeguard.
- Previous experience teaching swim lessons.
Salary/Benefits
- $14.00 per hour base rate.
- $16.00 per hour for group lessons.
