The State College YMCA is currently accepting applications for a full-time Head Swim Team Coach to be responsible for planning, coaching, and leading the swim team to meet the goals and objectives of the YMCA competitive swim team program.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and develop the swim team program. Plan, attend, and direct team practices as scheduled and within the guidelines set forth by the Aquatics Director. The coach must be accessible to all levels of swimmers and ensure the safety of participants at all times.
- Recruit, hire, develop, and train assistant coaches. Process bi-weekly payroll for coaching staff.
- Maintain proper team records and file reports as needed, including maintaining an accurate team roster using Team Manager software.
- Attend all league meetings and team meets. Coordinate entry information to meet all deadlines. Attend and organize USA Swimming meet participation as needed.
- Work with the SCAY Parent Committee to recruit and manage volunteers. Actively participate in all parent committee meetings.
- Relate to individual swimmers on a personal basis during practice and at meets.
- Be accessible to parents to hear concerns via in-person appointments, phone calls, or emails.
- Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director or Branch Executive Director. These may include, but are not limited to, teaching stroke clinics or assisting with swimming lessons outside of the winter swim season.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of aquatic experience as a competitive swimmer or aquatic instructor.
- 5 year of competitive coaching experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of competitive aquatics.
- Ability to positively lead, inspire, and motivate swimmers of all ages.
- Current valid drivers license and access to a personal vehicle.
- YMCA of USA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving and American Red Cross or YMCA of the USA Lifeguarding certification (including CPR, first aid, and emergency oxygen). This is required for coaching deck pass for any district and national swim meets.
