What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Lesson Instructor position at State College YMCA?

The State College YMCA is currently accepting applications for part-time Swim Lesson Instructors to be responsible for teaching swim lessons utilizing the Y USA Swim Lesson Program and YMCA of Centre County approved lesson plans. Staff are needed to fill shifts Monday - Thursday from 5:00 PM - 6:45 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Primary Responsibilities
- Create a warm and positive environment while encouraging swimmers to meet course objective. Maintain a positive rapport with parents and other patrons.
- Follow lesson plans and create drills and activities within swim lesson program guidelines.
- Support, follow, and enforce all facility rules and regulations with extra emphasis on safety. Teach age-appropriate rules in a positive manner to lesson participants. Report problems or concerns to the Program Director.
- Take attendance using the class roster. Those not on the roster must register at the front desk.
- Private Swim Instructors should verify payment for private lessons by viewing a receipt from the client prior to teaching the lesson. Once the lesson is complete, instructors should log it and keep track of those paid at the front desk. Under no circumstances should an instructor directly accept money from a client for the services given.
- Complete skills sheets after each class and store in YMCA binder.
- Communicate with parents about their child’s progress.
- Assist with keeping the pool area clean and complete other duties within the pool area as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 16 years of age.
- Prior experience teaching swim lessons preferred.
- Prior swimming experience necessary.
Salary/Benefits
- Starting at $16 per hour.
- Additional opportunities for teaching private lessons at a higher rate will become available at a later opportunity, per the Assistant Aquatics Director.

- For those interested in teaching adapted swim lessons, to work individually with children possessing special needs, disabilities, sensory issues, or otherwise, opportunities to shadow an experienced instructor will be available for Friday evenings between 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
