The following units operate separately while supporting each unit based on operational needs: The Intake Unit is responsible for entering all claims that have been received and filing the claims for evaluation at a future date; the Locator Unit is responsible for locating and sending claim packages or other correspondence to potential claimants based on their last known address, provided by the Franchise Tax Board; and the Mailroom Unit is responsible for all incoming mail that is delivered to the Unclaimed Property Division (UPD) and for sorting and distributing correspondence to the appropriate unit and collecting/sending outgoing correspondence.

Under general supervision of the Staff Services Manager I of the Intake, Locator and Mailroom Units of the Support Services Bureau, the Program Technician II (PT II) performs the more difficult program specialist work involved with completion and/or review and processing of technical documents as well as providing technical information to departmental clientele and/or the general public, review and process claim forms specific to the Division which requires detailed knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply and communicate specific laws, rules and policies related to program work. The PT II is a journey level career path for those in the PT classification.

Duties Performed:

  • Receive and log claims into Clearview Connect system, evaluating and processing incoming claims for unclaimed property.
  • Assist in researching and responding to claim inquiries regarding ownership of unclaimed property.
  • Identify problem areas within the claims receiving process and present recommendations to management for resolution.
  • Oversee the claims intake box review process to ensure all claims received from the public are accounted for.
  • Train and provide guidance to entry-level staff on Mailroom and Intake functions including the box review process.
  • Perform job shadowing and reverse job shadowing to members of the Mailroom and Intake Units.
  • Open, sort and date stamp mail received in the UPD, delivering incoming mail and picking up outgoing mail from various UPD units. .
  • Maintain records of the UPD’s record retention files, updating and maintaining statistical reports for various types of undelivered mail notices returned to UPD.
  • Process undeliverable pre-escheat notices and prepare them for disposal.
  • Log unclaimed property reports into Clearview Connect, assisting with the preparation of reports to be entered into the database.
  • Perform research of files, run database queries and process other related work, converting paper claims and other documents into an electronic format.
  • Provide support to the Support Services Bureau by cross-training with other staff and provide back-up to address the fluctuating needs of the Bureau.

Working Conditions

This position is located in Rancho Cordova on White Rock Road, between Mather Field Road and Zinfandel Drive just off US 50 offering free parking is situated in the family-friendly suburbs of Sacramento. There is an abundance of nearby shopping centers and dining options with public transportation accessible nearby via Sacramento Regional Transit’s bus and light rail systems.

Required Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

There are no teleworking opportunities with this position.
