What are the responsibilities and job description for the PROGRAM TECHNICIAN position at State Controller's Office?
Under close to general supervision of the Staff Services Manager I of the R&PR Unit of the Special Operations Bureau, the Program Technician (PT) learns and/or performs work involved with completion and/or review of the processing of technical documents or the giving of technical information to departmental clientele and/or the general public. The duties of this class require detailed knowledge of and ability to interpret, apply and communicate specific laws, rules and policies related to program work.
Duties Performed:
- Answer inquiry calls to the Unclaimed Property Division’s (UPD) Call Center related to specific claims or providing general information regarding the Unclaimed Property Program.
- Serve as the first line of contact for callers with less difficult questions, regarding claim inquiries with reference to laws, rules and regulation governing the distribution of unclaimed property.
- Respond to inquiries with basic knowledge of unclaimed property laws, policies and claim procedures, either via telephone, e-mail or written correspondence.
- Refer claims or calls that are determined to be more complex to the appropriate staff for further evaluation and resolution, per the UPD’s Procedures.
- Receive and document the location of complex claim types and review claims for settlement.
- Provide support to the Special Operations Bureau by cross-training and providing back-up to address fluctuating needs of the Bureau.

Working Conditions
This position is located in Rancho Cordova on White Rock Road, between Mather Field Road and Zinfandel Drive just off US 50 offering free parking is situated in the family-friendly suburbs of Sacramento. There is an abundance of nearby shopping centers and dining options with public transportation accessible nearby via Sacramento Regional Transit’s bus and light rail systems.
This position is eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Specific telework arrangements may be discussed in more detail with the respective hiring manager. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the State Controller's Office policies.
