Responsibilities
A Day In The Life Of An Intern – Life/Health Actuarial
State Farm’s Life/Health Actuarial Department is a place where interns complete innovative and meaningful project work in a collaborative environment focused on developing technical and business skills - a perfect complement to the classroom. Interns provide analysis and solutions through:
- Assessment of risk and financial needs for insurance products
- Development of innovative methods and applications to enhance insurance product pricing
- Research on company and emerging industry trends and hot topics
- Development through extensive training programs, mentoring programs, and leadership opportunities as well as competitive compensation/benefits such as actuarial exam raises
Qualifications
We Are Looking for College Students With:
- Majors in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Management or other analytical fields
- A minimum GPA of 3.25, though a GPA above 3.5 is preferred
- Experience with data and statistical analysis in Excel, SQL, R, and/or Python
- Intention to earn the ASA/FSA designation
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organization, leadership, and critical thinking skills
- Rising Seniors must have:
- Successful completion of at least one Society of Actuaries or Casualty Actuarial Society actuarial exam, though completion of two or more exams is preferred.
What You Can Expect:
- Summer Internship Dates: 5/19/2025-8/1/2025 (11 weeks)
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 38.75 hours per week
- As the summer program has a short duration, it is expected that hired interns will be available throughout the entire summer internship with minimal to no disruptions in their work schedule.
- Pay: $30/hour ( an additional dollar per hour for each Actuarial exam passed).
- In addition, interns selected for our summer internship program will be eligible for a $2,000 stipend!
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid - In this position, you should plan to spend time working in the office a minimum of 2 days per week. Interns are expected to be able to travel to and from your assigned office location as part of a hybrid work arrangement. Work arrangements could change over time based on business need. Selected interns must reside within the continental U.S. for the duration of the summer internship. Your leadership will share additional information regarding your department’s approach and what it means for you.

- Internship Program Eligibility: To be eligible for the summer internship program, you must be a full-time student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate program throughout the duration of the internship.
