Responsibilities
The Location Services team at State Farm is seeking a Lead Software Engineer who is enthusiastic about learning and eager to shape the future of Geospatial Technologies at State Farm. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with key departments such as Claims, Underwriting, and Agency to address their geospatial needs.
- Uphold engineering best practices, including security, design, testing, and code quality, in all geospatial products.
- Promote the adoption and expansion of geospatial products across the organization.
- Collaborate with other Enterprise Technology teams to ensure the use of proper geospatial patterns.
- Manage our Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) State Farm Mapping Portal in AWS utilizing services such as RDS, ElastiCache, Fargate, Lambda, CloudWatch, and S3.
- Identify and evaluate emerging software and geospatial technologies.
Qualifications
- Over 5 years of experience in software development.
- Experience leading an engineering team.
- Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, SQL, GitLab, and Terraform.
- Expertise in AWS system architecture.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems under pressure
- Strong communication skills for conveying complex software information to business partners and abilitiy to translate business needs into functional products.
Additional Preferred Skills
- Experience with FastAPI, VueJS, Splunk, and Scalr.
- Experience in building geospatial software.
- Familiarity with geospatial vendors like Google Maps, ESRI, and Mapbox.
- Experience with geospatial software such as PostGIS, OGC Standards, MapLibre, Turf, and QGIS.
- Proven ability to test disaster recovery.
- Experience in building CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven ability to create and maintain automated test cases.
- Background in Underwriting or Claims
