Overview
Implementing solutions is critical for the success of data science at State Farm. As part of the Model Validation team, your role will consist of problem identification, solution proposals and presentations to a wide variety of management & technical audiences. This role allows you to work on multiple concurrent projects in a community setting, develop yourself and others, and advance data science both at State Farm and externally. The variety of projects, technologies, and statistical techniques will create an unbounded development opportunity for enhancing your analytic skills.
This is a REMOTE (US) role, qualified candidates (outside of hub locations listed below) may be considered for 100% remote work arrangements based on where a candidate currently resides or is currently located.
HYBRID: Qualified candidates within a reasonable commute of the hub locations listed below should plan to spend time working from home and some time working in the office as part of our hybrid work environment, approximately one day per quarter, subject to change based on business need.

Responsibilities
Why Join Our Team:
In this role you will be responsible for the independent review and validation of various types of models, including machine learning models, that are being developed or have been implemented at State Farm. Statistical areas of model review include, but are not limited to, problem design; data engineering; model development; performance validation; and plans for ongoing monitoring. Furthermore, you will rely on your experience to discuss alternative approaches as well as develop alternative models to the ones proposed by other data scientists. Moreover, the Model Validation team provides periodic independent statistical consultation, analysis, or modeling work apart from independent review.
Qualifications
Data Scientist Skills & Professional Required Experience:
- Completed Masters, other advanced degrees
- 3 years hands-on working experience in an analytical field such as data science, quantitative marketing, statistics, operations research, management science, industrial engineering, economics, etc.
- Experience engaging in quantitative analysis on many non-standard and unique business problems
- Proficiency in data cleansing, feature creation, feature selection and value imputation
- Strong techncial skills in Python, R, and/or SAS
- Familiarity with cloud-based environments, specifically AWS and Linux
- Thorough understanding of generalized linear models
- Knowledge of at least two (2) of the following methods: time series analysis, cluster analysis, tree-based algorithms, neural networks
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively manage diverse stakeholders at various levels and business areas
- Demonstrated sound judgment in diagnosing and resolving problems within your area of expertise
Preferred Qualifications: - 5 years of experience building predictive models preferred
- Experience conducting analysis in the Insurance or Financial industry
For Colorado and Washington State residents (geographic differential may apply): Salary Range: $99,600 -167,812 | Potential yearly incentive pay up to 18% of base salary
For California, New York, and CT residents (geographic differential may apply): Salary Range: $113,250 - $167,812 | Potential yearly incentive pay up to 18% of base salary
For Hawaii residents: Salary Range: 90,600-134,250 | Potential yearly incentive pay up to 18% of base salary
