The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 1 located in Anchorage!

What you will be doing:
This position is responsible for providing comprehensive accounting support to Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim (AYK) and Central Regions. The incumbent will be responsible for the following functional areas: 1) Approving Officer, 2) Travel Authorizations, 3) One Card Reconciliation, 4) Adjusting Journal Entries, 5) Encumbrance Transactions, and 6) Other duties as assigned.

As a part of this team, you will serve a vital role as an Approving Officer for the region and a technical resource for reconciling accounts, processing payments, and processing travel. The selected candidate will help support a professional team dedicated to protecting and maintaining the State of Alaska's commercial fishery resources for the Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim (AYK) and Central Regions.

The working conditions you can expect:
This position is located at the Anchorage Fish and Game Regional office. The selected candidate will work in a collaborative work environment providing adminstrative support to a wide variety of individuals. This position is located in a spacious building with an individual cubical space with larger cubical walls. The core hours are from 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday-Friday. At the discretion of management and depending on the applicant, telework opportunities are possible after successful completion of training, onboarding, and at least 2 months of employment. This position is being recruited for Anchorage only, and the selected applicant must be located in Anchorage/Eagle River/Wasilla/Palmer. Employees on approved telework agreements will be expected to report to the office, when necessary, sometimes on short notice.

We are looking for an individual with the following competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Working knowledge of automated accounting system(s).

  • Documented experience in monitoring large numbers of programs with multiple funding sources.

  • Skills in identifying discrepancies or inaccuracies in data and making corrections.

  • Skills in collecting and organizing accounting data, interpreting its significance, and preparing accurate reports.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.

Substitutions:
Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
