The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Oil & Gas, is recruiting for an Analyst-Programmer 3/4 in Anchorage!

This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

What You Will Be Doing:
This position works with a team of Analyst/Programmers responsible for maintaining and creating custom software applications, providing database management and third-party software integrations that are critical for the successful management of Alaska’s oil, gas, and geothermal resources. This is a highly technical position that will work with technical and non-technical DOG/DNR/SOA staff.

The Department of Natural Resources’ mission is to ‘Develop, conserve and maximize the use of Alaska's natural resources consistent with the public interest. The Division of Oil & Gas’ role in that mission is to fairly and responsibly manage the state’s lands for oil, gas, and geothermal exploration for the greatest benefit of all Alaskans. This position is part of an IT team aiming to provide customer-focused technology resources, applications, and solutions that align with department and state strategic initiatives.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position works within the Atwood building, which houses multiple state agencies in downtown Anchorage at 550 W. 7th Ave. The work shift is flexible within normal business hours for the Division. A typical workday will involve working both independently and alongside other development team members. Work tasks are self-assigned via a ticketing system or assigned by a supervisor, with priorities being set by Division management.

We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following position-specific competencies.
  • Software Development – Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for designing, developing, and testing software in a given environment.
  • Analysis and Assessment – Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
  • Database Management Systems – Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and integrity of data.
  • Software Testing and Evaluation – Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for analyzing and developing software test and evaluation procedures.
  • Technical Documentation – Knowledge of procedures for developing technical and operational support documentation.

Analyst/Programmer 3 – $2568.75
Two years of computer programming experience in a recognized computer language. One year of this experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer information management support specialty.
Substitution:
A bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science (CS) or Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a related degree with (18) semester/(24) quarter hours of CS or CIS may substitute for one year of the required experience. An associate's degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems may substitute for nine months of the required experience.

Analyst/Programmer 4
– $2940.00
Four years of computer programming experience in a recognized computer language. One year of this experience must have been in a business application, scientific application, microcomputer or computer information management support specialty.

Special Note for all levels
:
An applicant who is considered under the Substitution above qualifies to apply for this job class IF the applicable coursework is completed within three (3) months of hire. Under this option, an applicant may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of completion will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
Individual positions at each level in this class series may require expertise in a particular area of programming or analysis. These requirements will be the basis for recruitment and selection.
For some positions in these job classes, a background investigation including fingerprinting is required.

If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
