The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for an Equipment Operator Journey 1 to help us

Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing

As part of the maintenance crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep of state highways and airports within the district. Your tasks will include operating and maintaining both heavy and light-duty equipment, as well as performing essential maintenance on infrastructure such as road surfaces, bridges, culverts, signs, barricades, fences, and vegetation. You will also handle traffic control duties, including flagging, to ensure safety on the job.

In addition, you will be involved in snow and ice removal from highways, bridges, and city streets using plow trucks and loaders, as well as sanding roads with sand trucks during winter operations. You'll rely on radio communication to receive work assignments, coordinate tasks, and ensure that all duties are completed efficiently and safely.

The working environment you can expect

This position is based in Northway, Alaska, within the Tok District. Northway is a predominantly Athabascan village, that is situated in the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge, 42 miles from the Canadian border and 50 miles southeast of Tok. Accessible via a 9-mile spur road off the Alaska Highway, it includes three dispersed settlements: Northway Junction, Northway (the airport), and the Native village located two miles to the north. Expect a dynamic, fast-paced environment with diverse responsibilities and conditions. You'll work both independently and as part of a team, often in challenging weather or terrain. Minimum Qualifications

Commercial Driver's License Required

This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) per federal regulations (49 CFR 383), to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.

Equipment Operator Journey 1

A Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with N-Tanker endorsement and Airbrake Restriction removed, is required at time of hire.

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY

Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test. According to federal regulations, all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.

EDUCATION

To verify education is being used to meet and/or support the required minimum qualifications/competencies, you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed.
