The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Food Service Lead position, at the Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) located in Mackenzie Point, Alaska. Watch Alaska DOC's video here: Facilities 30 Second Cut What You Will Be Doing: Direct kitchen staff, including Food Service Journey employees and inmate workers, in the preparation and production of meals for up to 1,500 inmates.Ensure stock is pulled for the daily pre-set menus and ensure medically prescribed diets are properly prepared for each meal service.Direct the production and preparation of all bakery items.Oversee and instruct kitchen staff in the areas of cooking, baking, sanitation, nutrition, and portion control.Our Mission, Values, and Culture: The mission of the Alaska Department of Corrections is to promote public safety. You will be working in the state’s largest industrial kitchen with other staff and inmates daily.Who We Are Looking For: We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies: Food Service: Knowledge of preparing and serving food for consumption.Food Production: Knowledge of planning, growing, and harvesting of food for consumption using appropriate equipment and techniques.Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different solutions; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
