The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land & Water, is recruiting for a Land Surveyor 1 in Anchorage, Alaska.
What You Will Be Doing:
Writing Survey Instructions, which range in size. The incumbent evaluates State, Federal, and other records to determine document inter-relationships and significance, establishing survey standards, techniques, and methods unique to each project. Plat Reviews of submitted surveys, including field notes and commutations, to ensure compliance with instructions, statutes, and standards. Considers original instructions while accounting for potential changes and checks accuracy and completeness. Survey determination ensures the land is adequately surveyed for transfer of title. Evaluates existing surveyors for statutory requirements. As-Built Survey Reviews. provides a professional review of submitted surveys.

This position is located in the Attwood Building in downtown Anchorage and has a centrally located cubicle.
We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following position-specific competencies.
- Surveying: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods used in the measurement or determination of land boundaries, distances, elevations, areas, angles, and other features of the earth’s surface.
- Technical Expertise: Effectively applies technical knowledge to solve a range of problems; develops technical solutions to new or highly complex problems that cannot be solved using existing methods or approaches; is sought out as an expert to provide advice or solutions in the technical area.
- Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
- Reading Comprehension: Understands and interprets written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations.

Minimum Qualifications
Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor.
Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(c). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
