This position is being recruited for in Anchorage or Juneau. 
 
What you will be doing:
In both an office setting and in the "field" (Remote Alaskan villages), the Remote Maintenance Worker (RMW) position provides training and technical assistance to rural utility operators.  This position must show initiative and an ability to work independently in the field, applying specific skills in plumbing and pipefitting, electronics and electrical troubleshooting, carpentry, and general building maintenance to find solutions to operation and maintenance problems encountered in village water and sewer systems.  This position is also called upon to provide immediate emergency response to rural Alaskan utility systems to avert a potential catastrophic failure.

The applicant must have the ability to assess the situation, formulate a plan and make appropriate decisions to follow through to completion of the project or resolution of the problem or issue.

Our organization, mission, and culture:
The Remote Maintenance Worker Program develops the capacity of Rural Alaskans to operate local water and sewer facilities while safeguarding State and Federal capital investments in utility infrastructure. Our primary services are to:
  • A circuit rider program provides over-the-shoulder training and technical assistance to local water and sewer operators in over 180 rural communities.
  • Provide immediate response to emergencies that threaten or impact community water and sewerage facilities.
  • Provide regional classroom training for area utility operators.
  • Maintain an inventory of emergency repair equipment for loan to communities.

The working environment you can expect:
This position is based out of the Anchorage office and is centrally located to the communities we serve. We offer the opportunity to Telework (work from home) once the incumbent is competent with the duties and responsibilities of the position. We are looking for a candidate that has experience in the following areas: 
  • A valid Alaska Driver’s License is required. Within six months of hire, able to drive lite pickup truck
  • Incumbent must obtain entry-level Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection certifications (18 AAC 74). (we provide training opportunities to accomplish these certifications)
  • Willing to travel by small plane, 4-wheeler, snowmachine, and boat
  • Work in remote Alaska Village communities
  • Able to operate small handheld equipment such as Water/Sewer leak detection equipment, Elec. Tester, portable power tools.
Special Note:
  • This position requires frequent travel, typically one-two trips per month 3-5 days in duration, depending on issues in the field.
  • Requires travel by small plane, 4-wheeler, snowmachine, and boat
  • Occasionally working in confined spaces or harsh winter conditions
