What you will be doing:
In this position you will contribute to the Juneau Field Office's promotion, development, and implementation of the department's capital program for the DOT&PF Southcoast Region. Under direct supervision of the Planning Chief and guidance of the Transportation Planners, the incumbent will review and provide recommendations on planning studies; compile project background reports, status reports, nominations packages, and white papers; and will assist in the preparation and revision of Alaska’s multi-year surface transportation, aviation, and ports and harbors improvement plans and programs for Southcoast Region. The incumbent will represent DOT&PF to assure that transportation facilities, systems, and needs are adequately addressed.

The office, centrally located off Glacier Highway near Sunny Point area and provides abundant parking, pedestrian facilities and is centrally located offering short trips to Downtown or the Valley.
You will be joining a supportive team of professionals that work efficiently and effectively together in delivering services to the State. As well as gaining knowledge and skills that will enable you to become a professional transportation planner and advance your skills as a leader.
NOTE: In-State travel may be monthly on average to Anchorage, Fairbanks for training, conferences with occasional trips to small communities for public meetings or field visits. Out of State Travel is rare for this position but may occur due to situational circumstances.Who we are looking for:

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Planner 1 or Planner 2, or Planner 3 level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1, promotion to the Level 2 or if filled at the 2 level, promotion to the Level 3 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
