The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Statewide Aviation, is looking for a Transportation Planner 1 (Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Program Manager) in Anchorage to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing :

As the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Program Manager, you will oversee the planning, development, and management of DOT&PF's UAS program. You will lead the expansion of UAS operations across all regions, ensuring strategic growth and integration with advanced technologies. Your role includes securing federal grants, managing statewide projects, and ensuring compliance with department policies. You will also represent DOT&PF in interdepartmental and external meetings to align and promote UAS initiatives.

You will manage the program's budget, overseeing equipment purchases, maintenance services, and grant-related procurements. Implementing a new asset management system, you will streamline tracking and maintenance of UAS assets. Your oversight will ensure compliance with state and federal procurement regulations while optimizing resources.

Leading regional UAS teams, you will provide supervision and guidance to maintain performance standards and emergency response readiness. You will manage the deployment of critical equipment to support rapid response efforts and infrastructure monitoring. Your leadership will ensure operators are well-trained, equipment is maintained, and DOT&PF's UAS capabilities continue to evolve.

The position is located at 4111 Aviation Drive adjacent to Lake Hood in Anchorage, Alaska. This position has a workstation on the first floor of the building.

  • A valid Driver's License is required.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Background check clearance is required as this position has access to the State Emergency Operations Center where our drones and remote sensing technologies are used for natural disasters.

    Experience, which involves some combination of the design of research projects, setting standards for technical adequacy, and / or coordinating the planning contributions of lower level planners or other agencies, in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; geographic information systems; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.
