The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Data Modernization & Innovation Office, is seeking a visionary Chief Data Officer (CDO) to lead the department’s data strategy and unlock the transformative potential of data to improve Alaska’s transportation systems. What you will be doing:
- Strategize and Lead: Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy aligned with the department’s mission and goals.
- Govern Data: Establish and oversee data governance frameworks, ensuring accuracy, security, and compliance across many data assets.
- Promote Innovation: Harness advanced data technologies, analytics, and tools to drive innovation in transportation planning, maintenance, and safety initiatives.
- Integrate Systems: Lead efforts to integrate siloed data systems, creating a unified data ecosystem that supports seamless collaboration and decision-making.
- Drive Data-Driven Culture: Foster a culture that values data as a strategic asset, supporting staff in using data to make informed decisions.
- Collaborate Across Stakeholders: Work closely with internal teams, government agencies, and external partners to deliver data solutions that address Alaska’s unique transportation challenges.

Minimum Qualifications

Post-secondary education in urban, regional, transportation, or landscape planning;
AND/OR
Experience in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; urban design; historic preservation; geography; geographic information systems; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research. This experience should include some combination of the design of research projects, setting standards for technical adequacy, and/or coordinating the planning contributions of lower level planners or other agencies, multi-modal transportation planning, and/or Capital Improvement Program (CIP) development and control.
