Job Summary
The Division of Business and Finance within the Arizona Department of Administration is currently recruiting for an Accounting Specialist II. With little supervision, this position is responsible to perform journey level accounting-related tasks within an automated financial system. Apply accounting principles and practices within government institutions. Gather, compile and reconcile fiscal data. Examine and verify fiscal transactions such as billing invoices, accounts receivable and accounts payable, or other financial documents. May assist in the preparation of reports summarizing financial transactions and prepare journal and ledger entries. Explains and counsels divisions on accounting principles as related to SAAM.

Job Duties
- Review and analyze documentation for accuracy, compliance to statutes, and policies
- Ensure that documents are properly authorized
- Prepare and enter transactions into various automated systems
- Review/reconcile accounts and transactions from the accounting system for errors and make any necessary corrections
- Resolve issues/problems, answer questions, research and analyze data for divisions
- Prepare deposits in accordance with policies and procedures related to the handling of checks and reconcile to the accounting system
- Prepare and enter daily cash receipts
- Open and log incoming checks
- Process vendor payments. Other duties as assigned as related to the position
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
- Accounting principles and practices (GAAP, GASB, FASB, etc.)
- Reconciliation procedures
- Arizona Accounting Manual
- Financial data analysis
- Statutes relative to area of responsibility and internal policies and procedures
- Automated accounting systems
- Section goals and objectives and department goals
- Revenue and expenditure, cycles for businesses
- Statutes relating to the vendor payments
- Interpersonal relationships with peers, and individuals both within and without the ADOA
- Basic math
- Work organization and time management
- Work well with other employees
- Understand and interpret policy and statutes
- Communicate both verbally and written
- Computer trainings: Google Suite
- AFIS Training and six months’ experience using AFIS
- One year of governmental accounting experience; or 12 semester hours of accounting from an accredited college or university
- Background and reference check, including a criminal records verification
