The primary responsibility of this role is to provide legal advice on a wide range of operational matters. In addition to that, the General Counsel serves as the Department's point of contact for legal issues, liaising with the Office of the Attorney General and outside counsel on matters relating to high-profile litigation.Apart from the legal responsibilities, the General Counsel also manages resources, including fiscal and staff, and develops and implements agency policies and procedures related to the functions of the Office of General Counsel. Additionally, this position involves state travel, which may require possible overnight stays.This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.Job Duties : As an Executive Leadership member, this position plays a substantial role in developing departmental policies and the strategic plan; directs the day-to-day operations of the Office of General Counsel, either directly or through subordinate administrators. Directs and oversees the functions and processes of the division while ensuring that functions and priorities are in alignment with the Department's operational and strategic objectives.Serves as the liaison with the Attorney General's Office on cases involving the Department and will communicate the Department's position on legal issues and decisions; and assists in the coordination of litigation efforts regarding high profile lawsuits against the Department and its employees.Conducts research, analyzes information, and provides legal advice to the Director and executive leadership on operational matters; and identifies significant litigation and major legal issues affecting the Department and proposing recommended courses of action based on their findings.Analyzes existing federal and state laws to determine their impact on the agency; and makes recommendations for changes in State laws based on their analysis.
