Your Contribution

  • Participate in facility meetings, training sessions, and the implementation of the Arizona Management System (AMS) to achieve continuous improvement and efficiency
  • Use and develop your potential within a supportive team environment

Job Duties

  • Plan, organize and direct nursing functions to comply with long-and-short term goals, facility policies and procedures, nursing home regulations, and budget
  • Be responsible for the provision of nursing care and services to Veterans/Members 24-hours per day, seven days per week
  • Determine nursing staff requirements including levels of training needed and allocation to treatment function and areas
  • Ensure adequate staff to meet direct care needs, assessments and planning evaluations and supervision
  • Provides assistant on units or with supervision, as required
  • Hire, supervise, evaluate, counsel and discipline staff
  • Review and evaluate staffs job performance through monthly 1:1 coaching sessions and annual appraisals
  • Participate actively in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI), clinical meetings and other facility meetings, as directed by the Administrator
  • Direct a nursing education program to promote growth and development of nursing personnel
  • Oversee the Yuma Arizona State Veteran Home staff compliance with annual tuberculosis skin testing requirements
  • Oversee the development, presentation, and tracking of mandatory in-service trainings
  • Conduct investigations of policy issues, staff and veteran/member allegations, and other potential disciplinary problems
  • Make regulatory reports, as indicated
  • Be actively involved in the Arizona State Management System (AMS) processes such as huddle boards, problem solving, job breakdown sheets, success tracking and standardized work
  • Serve on committees and attend related meetings
  • Assume staff assignments, when necessary
  • Consult with department and facility managers relative to program objectives, staffing and equipment needs, budget, operational policies and procedures and management issues
  • Assist Administrator in preparing for surveys

Knowledge Of

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Advanced nursing knowledge related to clinical management of moderate to complex medical conditions found within a skilled nursing facility
  • Fundamental nursing policies and procedures as they are generally written and applied within the skilled nursing facility
  • Employee management issues including scheduling, training, supervision and application of nursing practices
  • Relevant regulations as they pertain to the skilled nursing facility including OBRA, OSHA and other standards
  • Regulatory requirements related to the quality of resident assessments; Minimum Data Sets and the design and implementation of resident care plans
  • Human resource functions including recruiting, interviewing, training, coaching/counseling and taking disciplinary action
  • Design and implementation of systems related to work flow, scheduling, quality assurance functions and tracking the frequency and prevalence of quality indicators within the skilled nursing environment

Skills In

  • Managing systems, functions, material/supply resources, human resources and nursing practices
  • Assessing and planning appropriate medical interventions, especially as they apply to quality indicators
  • Fundamental nursing that may be used when providing nursing care or supervising and assessing the work and practice of other nursing staff
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Problem solving as it relates to nursing care and practice, interpersonal relationships, internal/external resources, and critical family/resident issues
  • Management and leadership

Ability To

  • Listen, observe, assess, and respond to medical emergencies
  • Evaluate, analyze, and make independent decisions and follow-up regarding client health problems
  • Work with professional and non-professional staff to ensure health and safety of residents

Selective Preference(s)

One or more years of skilled nursing facility or long-term care experience preferred

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Active license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Arizona
  • Current Negative TB skin test (Mantoux skin test) within the last twelve months or a written statement from a physician, physician’s assistant or a registered nurse practitioner indicating freedom from Tuberculosis, if in the past has had a positive skin test or Tuberculosis
  • Fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety
  • May be required to drive on State business; current, valid drivers license required. Subject to driver’s license record checks; must maintain acceptable driving records and complete any required driver training
