Job Summary:

Special Agents are the primary field representatives of the Department and act as a liaison to Tribes operating casinos in the State of Arizona. Special Agents are responsible for achieving voluntary compliance with all Compact requirements through the positive relationships and partnerships they develop with their Tribal gaming counterparts. Special Agents monitor gaming and regulatory operations through frequent on site visits conducted at various casinos within the State and investigate actual or suspected violations of the Compact. Special Agents review various reports, documents, and records, conduct certifications of gaming equipment, and perform observations of casino operations to determine compliance with the Compact. Special Agents work remotely and travel frequently throughout the State. Special agents can be civilians or AZPOST certified officers.


Job Duties:

  • Conduct investigations to ensure compliance with the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact as well as State and Federal laws.
  • Conduct regular site visits to Tribal casinos.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports documenting site visit activity and compliance concerns.
  • Maintain a database of information for each assigned Tribe.
  • Complete certifications of gaming equipment.
  • Monitor compliance with unusual occurrence reporting requirements for Tribal partners.
  • Assist other Department of Gaming work units with on and off-reservation criminal investigations to include the service of search warrants, surveillance, and interviews

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:


  • The Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact and its Appendices.
  • The Arizona Revised Statutes, and applicable federal laws.
  • Investigative techniques.
  • Interviewing techniques.
  • Microsoft, G-Suite, and software based investigative tools and resources.
  • Native American cultures and their sovereignty.

Skills in:

  • Working with people within tribal gaming operations, as well as with tribal regulators, and other law enforcement entities.
  • Interpreting and applying Compact requirements, state statutes, federal rules and regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • The use of various computer applications.
  • Investigative and interviewing techniques.
  • Writing factual, understandable, and complete reports.
  • Gathering facts, organizing, and comprehending information to make logical interpretations necessary to perform operational duties.
  • Diplomacy and interpersonal relations.

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and initiative.
  • Observe activity and identify compliance issues.
  • Testify in administrative hearings, criminal or civil court.
  • Work in a casino, which can be a smoke and high dust environment, and be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Lift 20 pounds and be able to look underneath card tables to verify serial numbers.
  • Work at all casino locations within the State.
  • Travel to remote casinos, which will at times include overnight stays.
  • Work from home.

Selective Preference(s):

  • Regulatory or gaming experience.
  • Investigative experience.
  • Current AZPOST certification.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Civilian candidates for this position must submit to a criminal history investigation.

AZPOST applicants must complete a background investigation. Applicant hired into an AZPOST positon must have current AZPOST certification or be able to obtain certification within 6 months of hire date through the AZPOST waiver process. ADG will NOT sponsor an applicant to attend a police academy.

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
Please note, enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
