Job Duties

An unpaid internship is available in the Office of Victim Services. This opportunity will provide an understanding about the criminal justice system, court procedures, and victims’ rights. As an intern, you will gain experience with the day to day families during the post-conviction stage. You will acquire hands on experience with the day to day operations of the Office of Victim Services including assistance with victims at the parole hearings, notifications to victims, research, compiling statistics, and office procedural work. In addition, you will have the flexibility to attend court hearing, trainings, network with collaborative agencies, and tour prisons and other agency Victim Services Departments. This opportunity may fulfil intern credit requirements for Criminal Justice, Behavioral Health/Social Work or a field related to Victim Services.

  • Ability to work or around inmates
  • Adhere to agency work hours, policies, procedures and rules governing professional behavior
  • Adhere to state rules and policies governing the observation of confidentiality
  • Assume personal and professional responsibilities for all activities and actions
  • Maintain both internal and external professional relationships
  • Utilize a courteous, enthusiastic, open-minded, and critical approach to policies and procedures within the agency
  • Relate and apply knowledge acquired in the academic setting to your assignment or project
  • Develop self-awareness as it relates to attitude, values and behavior patterns that influence work
  • Prepare for and utilize meeting, events and other opportunities of learning afforded to you as an intern
  • Be consistent and punctual in the submission of all projects assignments
  • If applicable, provide your faculty advisor with periodic progress reports

Pre-Employment Requirements

Currently pursuing an Undergraduate Degree in an approved College or University in Criminal Justice, Behavioral Health/Social Work or related field to Victim Services.

Must be currently attending (or enrolled for the summer/fall semester) in approved college or university.

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.
