The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.
All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary
The Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC) / Department of Community Corrections (DCC) Administrative Review Officer is responsible for coordinating inmate disciplinary appeal processes and administrative procedures. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Reviews written inmate grievances and disciplinary appeals to determine actions for resolutions and disciplinary reports for accuracy and consistency. Researches inmate files and interviews inmates and/or staff to gather and document information concerning complaints. Reviews grievance, conducts investigation, and gathers information regarding disciplinary appeals, and recommends modifications to, or reversal of, disciplinary court decisions. Writes response to complaint with recommended action and submits to unit warden for approval, and sends copy of approval response to inmate. Records written grievances, disciplinary appeals, and responses and prepares statistical reports of grievances filed as requested by the unit warden. Coordinates drug testing for inmates and/or staff. May supervise activities of inmates on trips to various functions. May testify in court regarding inmate grievances and disciplinary appeals. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of policies and procedures of correctional facilities. Knowledge of state and federal laws governing the rights of inmates. Knowledge of investigative and interviewing methods, procedures, and techniques. Ability to research, interpret, and apply inmate due-process system and criminal justice penal system regulations and policies. Ability to research files and maintain records. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of experience in criminal investigation and/or correctional security, or a related field. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
